THE DOCTRINE OF REVELATION

1. Revealed from faith to faith

^“16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. ¹⁷ For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.” Romans 1:16-17

2. Revealed through the Spirit

⁹ But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”

¹⁰ But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. ¹¹ For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. ¹² Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. 1 Corinthians 2:9-12

THE GOSPEL OF GOD

1 Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated to the gospel of God ² which He promised before through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures, ³ concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh, ⁴ and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead. Romans 1:1-4

i) Through God’s prophets

ii) Written in the Holy Scriptures

b) The Heart of the Gospel

i) Jesus Christ our Lord

Born of the seed of David according to the flesh

iii) Declared “The Son of God”

iv) According to the Spirit of God by His resurrection from the dead

a) It is easy to mistake God’s revelation

b) There is a subjective element that can result in perversion

c) There is also the danger of pride 2 Corinthians 12:7

a) It is humbling to know that we are dependent upon the Spirit of God

b) There is no substitute for waiting upon the Lord to reveal His word

c) God allows for thorns in the flesh to move us to seek His grace 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
